Composite Long Rod Insulator

Composite long rod insulators are essential components in high-voltage transmission lines, primarily used in suspension strings for straight-line supports and tension strings in anchor and dead-end towers. They also serve in outdoor substation portals, jumpers, and, in some cases, as guy strain insulators for wooden poles and, less frequently, for steel towers.

For extra-high voltage (above 230 kV) applications, composite long rod insulators are often equipped with corona rings to enhance insulation performance by reducing electrical stress and minimizing corona discharge. Manufacturers recommend installing a corona ring on the line end for transmission lines above 230 kV, while for potentials exceeding 500 kV, corona rings should be installed on both ends of the insulator. This setup helps to prolong the service life of the insulator surface by mitigating the effects of corona discharge.
