Loadbreak cutout, also known as LB cutout or load break fuse cutout, is equipped with an arc chute and functions as an outdoor protective device that combines both over-current protection and load-breaking capability. It not only safeguards distribution lines but also ensures safe, convenient operation and maintenance in the field.
In practical operation, once proper safety measures are taken, the loadbreak cutout can interrupt load current simply by pulling the fuse holder away from the upper contact. During this opening motion, the current path shifts to the fuse-holder contacts. As the fuse holder continues to separate, an arc forms and is guided into the arc chute, where it is rapidly elongated and extinguished, completing the load-break operation.
